This has been an idea for several years. No one has any excuse for not doing the things they really want to do, so I will not attempt to be the exception.
Thing is, this was never what I thought I would be “doing for a living” so to speak. Not sure about you, I mean, since you’re here reading this you may be the target audience. But I do not read blogs. I do not frequent them. The only times I find myself on a blog is to read about something that I have the fancy of learning a few more things about.
Tech
Politics
The odd movie or video game
Point is, I do not follow the blogs themselves, but the topics. And I find myself on a different topic every other hour.
Which showcases the dichotomy that, probably, everyone who is not obsessed with a single thing in their lives is feeling.
We need to specialise in order to become successful. Everything else you want to do is a hobby. Also, ideally have few hobbies if you want to be any good at any of them.
And similarly, the blogs that are popular, from what I can see, focus on a single topic. Similarly with people doing YouTube videos. So let’s just say, I always thought that, if I would be doing any form of blogging, I would get 0 interest, since I do not specialise in anything in particular (actually I do, but this will be another topic).
Thing is, I love exploring new things, new ideas, new activities every other week. Or I want to do many different things every day, every week I interleave and overlap my computer science studies with martial arts, dancing, reading, gym, a little bit of gaming, a lot more board gaming, escape rooms, miniature painting, acting???
Some of these overlap in terms of the skills and personality you require to undertake them, but in many ways they do not. At least, not in the way you would undertake one activity to benefit another, as one could say skills in martial arts can be complemented by gym and yoga. Everything is as related as it is unrelated, and there’s too much to be an expert in any of these matters.
But I love doing all this stuff. It makes me feel alive. Many people share my personality and perspective, yet get lost in the endless competition to specialise in one or two things, and be the best in those. Then you get them to a club and are unable to move, or give them a book and are unable to focus, or take them abroad and are unable to appreciate the history of the place and how it shaped the culture and the world.
Anyway, I feel like I’m digressing already. This can be a deeper topic for another time. But the point is, this blog has no subject specifically. It’s filled with whatever random stuff I think about the stuff that I’m doing. But I’m lying. If there’s one thing that these topics will have in common will be that they will be overthough and filled with as much insight as possible, into the deeper ramifications that they have with real life, and connections to other stuff.
For example, my first post, other than this one, will be on the mentality of someone who plays Clash of Clans, and how the gameplay shapes your behaviour, how some lessons can help you in real life to become more productive and more present, and how other aspects are impractical or downright self-destructive to take into the real life.
My next one will be on martial arts, in particular, on Wing Chun. I will probably write multiple times on this topic, as I have theories about what makes it the most effective and one of the most ineffective martial arts you can ever practice for self defense, and a case study of Adlerian Psychology: my Sifu (it’s like Sensei, but for chinese martial arts instead of japanese), and how he is able to achieve the pinnacle of self fulfilment through a combination of tough love and community feeling.
You can hopefully notice how random my subjects will be.
But what I hope I will allow people reading this to explore is their own mentality, to become more introspective in everything that they are doing. This is as much a practice of introspection for me, as I hope it is for you. If I manage to set this up with WordPress, I will permit comments, and hopefully allow for some interesting discussions with everyone who has similar experiences in everything they do.
So, whenever you have more than a few minutes to spare, come take a look. One of my (hopefully) 1000 posts may help you learn more about yourself.
